Dance Programs

RPA offers a variety of styles including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Pointe and Contemporary for children and adults. The dance department, directed by Josh Murry-Hawkins, is divided into three programs; Minis (ages 18 months-6), Recreational (ages 7-adult) and Focus (ages 7-18).

Mini Program

Our Mini program, directed by Sarah Baltazar, is an introduction to dance using stories, props, a variety of music and creative thinking.  Children have a variety of classes to pick from that will give them a strong foundation in dance and music. All students are invited to perform in our Mini showcases in January and June as well as at Children’s Festival in March.

Recreation Program

Our Recreational program is for the older dancer who has graduated from the Mini program or is new to dance and would like to study Ballet, Tap, Jazz or Tumbling. The recreational program offers students a more relaxed environment without having to commit to several hours per week or a strict dress code. Recreational classes are great for beginning and intermediate students. All students in the recreational program will perform in one performance in our January show and one performance in our June show.

This is an invite only program and students are placed according to skill and not age. Youth Dance Company

This elite dance troupe in the greater Vancouver area gives dancers the experience of being in a company, preparing them for a future in the dance field.

Youth Dance Company is currently directed by Josh Murry-Hawkins. Company dancers focus on learning and performing original choreography in a fusion of dance styles and are featured in RPA’s January and June shows. Dancers extend their artistic growth with several performance opportunities in the Vancouver community with parades, festivals, and outreach. Dancers learn about current and past dance legends, makeup and hair styles, cross training and health tips are introduced to promote education and confidence. Company members are held to a higher standard in all classes with a personal evaluation after the first show of the year.
